Dragon Age: Inquisition is the third game in the Dragon Age franchise, following Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. Like the two previous games, the player takes on the role of a customisable character - the Inquisitor, and your choices will affect those around you, and the world of Thedas in general.

Set not long after the events of Dragon Age II, Inquisition begins literally with a bang. After the mage uprising that started in Kirkwall at the end of the previous games, mages and templars have come together for a conclave at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. This conclave has been called by Divine Justinia (the leader of the Chantry) in an attempt to end the Mage-Templar war. However, the conclave is interrupted by a the Veil being ripped open and leaving a huge tear in the sky, which becomes known as the Breach. The Temple of Sacred Ashes is destroyed, and the only person who survives this is the future Inquisitor. They stumble out of the Fade with a mark on their hand that is linked to the breach, and the fade rifts that have opened all over Thedas alongside the Breach. This, of course, leaves them as the only person who can save the world.
